Stuck on Step 3 of Install
#11
Hi Raven, thanks so much for your time.
I tried your settings but it didn't seem to work, screen cap here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/42u50b1cqi96pf...1.png?dl=0

I have to admit that this is all above my level of understanding, especially with this install being touted as easy! ; )

I don't have any antivirus other than Spybot running, which I disabled to try again, however with the same results.

Question: Are these the right default settings for setting up a new database for UserSpice? **in the demo the speaker simply enters ‘demo’ as the name, clicks ‘create’ and it’s done**

Thanks! D

you can always attempt to import this database in to your phpmyadmin and access it from root

root
localhost:3306
database name netremote

download that database i just made from here
www.ravencraftnetworks.com/download/netremote.sql

use the import command in phpmyadmin and choose the file you downloaded from where ever you saved it at

other then that im starting to come up to questions+outcomes/ideas=null lol

this is weird on so many levels ...... >_<

Your settings should be this (assuming the database you want to install in is called demo)

If that doesn't work, the only other real option is that you must have gotten a password on your mysql in xampp.
Here's a video on how to reset your password if you need to...

its gotta be something within his xampp system because i had him test on a fully working database that i made last complete with the tables it was ready to go all he had to do was successfully log in to it basically i am leaning towards apache not doing something right but functioning enough to completely hide the real problem lol and his xampp is incapable of dialing out to that remote database

thats ok i downloaded xampp my self and i cant get apache to start at all lol i also havnet put a whole lot of time in to it yet. im currently working at church

I lean towards apache too. Pretty much configuration. It might be worth uninstalling/reinstalling because I can download xampp and userspice and they both run out of the box in 5 mins. It's good do walk through these problems though because someone else will probably have the same problem.
I've got church coming up too, but I'll be around today.

Hi Mudmin, thanks for the info...not to repeat myself, but I am following that install guide video exactly, so I'm using those exact settings (localhost/root/no password/demo) to the T.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayQR95-V5hA

I decided to uninstall, re-download XAMPP and installed everything again. I was able to make a successful database connection this time!

However...it timed out with a fatal error. Screenshot here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ryu2bs23mub4ao...1.png?dl=0

I didn't get the 'save settings' button so tried to hit 'Test Settings' again...and got a bunch of errors:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/z65acfw3jqm2zl...3.png?dl=0

So, given that I'm using a totally clean install, exactly following that video to the letter, what assumptions are implied but not mentioned in the requirements to match the effortless results of that video?

I appreciate your time with this and Mudmin, your dedication to making this work. But I would guess, as you mentioned, that solving this will solve it for many other people as well.

Thanks so much for your help Raven. I uninstalled/reinstalled everything and nudged the stone forward a little bit...(please see post above if interested) but still not completely successful. I'm not sure what else I could be missing. Thanks again, D
